Munich — Prof. Dr. Caspar Behme (37 years) joins Walberg Law Tax Strategy GmbH & Cie. KG (”Walberg & Cie.“) as Of Counsel. From December 2023, he will support Walberg & Cie. as Of Counsel, primarily in the areas of M&A and corporate law, in particularly complex legal issues, as well as in insolvency and capital markets law. Behme will also assist Walberg & Cie. in disputes before state courts and arbitration tribunals. In the future, he will also play an important role in the area of digitization and related knowledge management at Walberg & Cie.

Since April 2023, Behme has been a professor of civil law, in particular contract law and contract drafting, with a research focus on corporate law at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. He received his Habilitation from the Faculty of Law at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich in July 2021. He was awarded the teaching qualification for civil law, commercial law, German, European and international corporate law and capital market law. Behme has extensive practical legal experience, in particular in settling commercial disputes out of court, both as an arbitrator and as a certified business mediator, and as a party representative before the European Court of Justice. He is active in publishing and has built up a comprehensive oeuvre of commercial law. In addition to numerous articles in specialist journals and commentaries, including the Munich Commentary on the Stock Corporation Act, the Munich Commentary on Insolvency Code, the Munich Handbook of Corporate Law and in other commentaries and handbooks on restructuring law, capital investment law and general terms and conditions, he is co-editor of LRZ — E-Journal for Business Law and Digitalization as well as a leading commentary on investment laws. His publications cover issues including contract law, M&A, German and European corporate and insolvency law as well as investment law and crypto assets.

With Caspar Behme, we are gaining a brilliant lawyer who provides even the most complex legal issues extremely quickly, to the point and with a clearly robust practical solution. In doing so, he helps us with complex transactions in particular. He knows how to bridge the gap between science and practice and is an excellent team player,” says Dr. Simon Sabel, lawyer and co-founder of Walberg & Cie. ”We also benefit from Caspar Behme's deep expertise in corporate law as well as in transformation law in tax advice — this allows us to represent restructuring even more holistically from a tax and legal perspective,” adds Manuel Brühl, tax advisor and co-founder of Walberg & Cie. ”The fact that Caspar Behme gave his postdoctoral presentation on the topic of “Liability for Autonomous Systems and Artificial Intelligence” impressively demonstrates the synergies between Mr. Behme's expertise and our consulting priorities,” states Dr. Arno Malcher, lawyer and co-founder of Walberg & Cie.

“As a scientist, I have never defined myself as a distinction from practice, but on the contrary, tried to facilitate the practical use of law through application-oriented research. I am very pleased to be able to contribute to the success of complex transactions through my scientifically based approach and to be able to solve demanding legal issues in the context of contentious disputes; at the same time, I hope that my work at Walberg & Cie will help me. Impulses for my research. ”, according to Prof. Dr. Caspar Behme.

The founders of Walberg & Cie. and Behme have known each other personally for a long time and have worked together on individual projects time and again in the past. Involvement as Of Counsel is now the next logical step. ”Caspar Behme is a perfect match for us and we are delighted to work with him to further develop Walberg & Cie., into an excellent address for complex business and tax law projects“, say founders Brühl, Malcher and Sabel.
