Dr. Roman Sprenger, LL.M. strengthens Walberg & Cie. in the area of corporate/M&A and opens a second branch of the firm in Düsseldorf as managing partner and shareholder

Munich/Düsseldorf, July 22, 2024 — The young boutique law firm Walberg Law Tax Strategy GmbH & Cie. KG (”Walberg & Cie.“) is expanding its team of partners with Dr. Roman Sprenger, LL.M. (Stellenbosch). Sprenger joins the firm as a shareholder and equity partner. In connection with Sprenger's accession, Walberg & Cie. is opening a new branch of the firm in Düsseldorf, which Sprenger will manage and establish.
Sprenger is a proven expert in the area of Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and will continue to expand this area at Walberg & Cie. Sprenger is moving from Hoffmann Liebs, where he most recently worked as an equity partner in the corporate/M&A sector. Sprenger was previously general counsel of an internationally active medium-sized group of companies and in this function was responsible, among other things, for their M&A activities. Sprenger began his legal career at CMS, where he worked for several years at the Düsseldorf office in the corporate/M&A sector and participated in numerous national and international transactions.
Sprenger regularly advises medium-sized entrepreneurs in exit and succession situations on the seller side. However, he is also repeatedly active on the buyer side and, for example, in 2023 supervised Herrenknecht AG in charge of acquiring a majority stake in H. Anger's Söhne Bohr- und Brunnenbaugesellschaft mbH.
”With Roman Sprenger, we are delighted to have such a pleasant, professionally experienced and exceptionally dynamic colleague in his own right. The M&A sector is a central pillar for us and Roman Sprenger's track record on the sell-side in particular is impressive. The fact that he also has extensive experience in strategic M&A transactions in the environment of owner-managed family businesses makes him a “perfect match” for Walberg & Cie.. It is particularly nice for me to now have an old colleague from CMS on board with us. Together, we can now expand the corporate/M&A division at Walberg & Cie.,” says the managing partner and co-founder of Walberg & Cie. Dr. Simon Sabel.
”The fact that Roman Sprenger is often active on the seller side is a very good fit for our tax law department. Because we regularly advise entrepreneurs on tax preparation for their exit, for example through holding structures and transformations, including in connection with preparing an (external) succession. Together with Roman Sprenger, we can handle even more joint interdisciplinary projects in the interface of tax law and corporate law/M&A, which makes us very happy, comments the managing partner and co-founder of Walberg & Cie. Manuel Brühl.
The Düsseldorf location will be another hub for advising on national and international transactions. Walberg & Cie. sees Düsseldorf and the Rhine-Ruhr region as an important growth area for M&A transactions and an ideal addition to its existing location in Munich. With the new location in Düsseldorf, the firm is expanding its geographical reach and underlining its commitment to excellent consulting services in Germany and beyond. Further hires are planned in Düsseldorf.
”We are already advising across Germany and across borders. With the opening of our office in Düsseldorf, we are taking an important strategic step towards the further sustainable expansion of Walberg & Cie., particularly in geographical terms“, adds Sabel.
Dr. Roman Sprenger comments on his new role:”I am delighted to become a managing partner and shareholder of Walberg & Cie., and to advance the development of the Düsseldorf office. The law firm quickly earned an outstanding reputation thanks to its excellent advice and innovative approach. I see great opportunities to further expand the M&A advisory offering in Düsseldorf and optimally support clients in this dynamic region. ”
